recognized across the globe for its bold and inventive programs that champ
ion the extraordinary flexibility and virtuosity of the human voice\, coll
aborates with a dance quartet featuring new choreography by Pilobolus\, to
bring the world premiere of Love Fail\, a meditation on the timelessness
of love that weaves together details from medieval retellings of the story
of Tristan and Isolde\, with music by renowned composer David Lang.\n\nHe
ralded for its “full-bodied and radiant sound” (The New York Times) an
d “stunning precision of harmony\, intonation\, and … spectacular virt
uosity” (Gramophone Magazine)\, Lorelei Ensemble\, founded in Boston in
2007 and led by founder and artistic director Beth Willer\, has establishe
d an inspiring mission\, curating culturally-relevant and artistically aud
acious programs that stretch and challenge the expectations of artists and
audiences alike.\n\nLorelei Ensemble is creating a living repertoire for
a living audience\, working with today’s leading composers to commission
more than 65 new works that expand and deepen the repertoire of sounds\,
timbres\, words and stories that women use to reflect and challenge our wo
rld. This new repertoire for women’s and treble voices demands fierce fl
exibility and openness from each artist and listener\, allowing unparallel
ed music making that is born from the unique position of power and cultura
l influence that women hold.\n\nCommitted to education\, Lorelei is empowe
ring young artists to be our next creative leaders through its work with r
ising performers and composers at children’s choirs\, high schools\, and
colleges and universities across the country. Cultivating both individual
and collaborative artistry\, Lorelei helps young artists hone their skill
 s to become flexible\, perceptive\, and open-minded musicians.\n\nVisit Lo
relei Ensemble website and Pilobolus website to learn more.\n\n–\nThe Va
il Series was endowed in 1979 by a generous gift from the late Mary and Fo
ster McGaw in honor of Jeanne Vail\, class of 1946. Just as it was intende
d to do\, the Series enriches the artistic experience of the entire Deniso
n community. Programmed creatively with the mindful pursuit of learning ac
ross traditional academic boundaries\, more than 100 individual Vail Serie
s artists have found their way to Denison’s classrooms and stages\, but
that doesn’t include the dozens of ensembles or full symphony orchestras
that have played here over the years.
