Their collaboration weaves together the rich\, resonant tones of Clay ton’s bass with the quartet’s dynamic string arrangements\, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly new. \n\nJohn Clayton\n\nBas sist\, Composer\, Arranger\, and Producer\, John Clayton is a busy man. He is a Grammy© winner with nine additional nominations and has written and /or recorded with artists such as Milt Jackson\, Diana Krall\, Paul McCart ney\, Regina Carter\, Dee Dee Bridgewater\, Gladys Knight\, Queen La fah\, McCoy Tyner\, YoYo Ma\, and Charles Aznavour\, to name only a few. \n\n John was the principal bassist in the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (Th e Netherlands) from 1980–1984. In 1986\, John co-founded the Clayton-Ham ilton Jazz Orchestra and rekindled The Clayton Brothers Quintet. He works annually as the Big Band Director for The Jazz Cruise. In addition to his individual clinics and workshops\, he also directs the educational compone nts of the Vail Jazz Workshop. \n\nIt is John’s arrangement of the “St ar Spangled Banner” that helped propel Whitney Houston in her 1990 perfo rmance at the Super Bowl (the recording went pla num).
