DESCRIPTION:The Global Studies Seminar presents “La Música de la Banda W
 iracocha” by Ricardo Álvarez-Bulacio.\n\nÁlvarez is a performer\, comp
 oser\, and scholar of music. He completed an Master of Arts\, a Doctor of 
 Philosophy\, and a postdoc in Music at the University of York\, UK\, betwe
 en 2010 and 2017.\n\nAs a performer\, he has held concerts in Argentina\, 
 Costa Rica\, Bolivia\, the United States\, England\, Germany\, and Holland
 .\n\nAs a researcher\, he has presented his work at international conferen
 ces such as the Conference of the British Forum of Ethnomusicology (Belfas
 t 2013\, Sheffield 2017)\, Latin American Music Seminar (London 2013\, 201
 4\, 2017\, and 2019)\; Rhythm Changes International Conference (Amsterdam 
 2018)\; and the Documenting Jazz Conference (Edinburg 2021) and he has pub
 lished in academic journals and books.\n\nAs a composer\, his works have b
 een performed by Julian Arguelles Octet (England)\, Quotuor Diotima (Franc
 e)\, Latin Strings (Germany)\, The Assembled (England) and the University 
 of York Jazz Orchestra (England). Two of his compositions have been recogn
 ized in 2017 and 2020 in the competition “Margot Loyola: Premio a la Mú
 sica de Raíz\,” organized by the Chilean Society of Musical Composers a
 nd Performers.\n\nCurrently\, he is part of the Ricardo Alvarez Quartet an
