ECO-PRINTING THE MYSTERY AND MAGIC

Join us to unbundle the mystery and magic of eco-printing. This program will explore the process of dyeing fabric using plant material known as botanical or eco-dyeing. The goal is to extract colors from flowers, leaves, weeds and other natural materials through contact dyeing to create a beautiful scarf or table runner.

The dyeing process creates a transfer of pigments from the plant material to fiber. Each participant will create their own unique print on silk fabric with leaves and flowers we collect from the grounds and you are encouraged to bring some from home. A list of leaves and flowers is included, if it’s not on the list email or text me a pic or name. Not all flowers or leaves will produce good prints. We look forward to meeting you and creating some extraordinary pieces. Eco- printing/dyeing is the transfer of pigments and tannins from flowers, leaves and plant material to fabric. The plant material is laid out on fabric, bundled and steamed. The heat causes the release of tannins and pigments, the bundling keeps the pigments in place. The result is the transfer of an image of the plant material.

This program will be a basic class. No experience is necessary. Fee is $40.
