Journalism and Black Studies at Denison welcome author and journalist Wil Haygood presenting, “The War Within a War: The Black Struggle in Vietnam and at Home” at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 30, in lecture hall 115 of the Burton D. Columbus native Haygood is the author of 10 nonfiction books, many of which have won literary awards. He will discuss his new book, “The War Within a War,” which explores how the Vietnam War became a mirror for the struggle of Black Americans fighting for freedom abroad while demanding equality at home. Haygood’s book, “The Butler,” about a White House butler who served eight presidents, was made into a feature-length film. Haygood has been a correspondent for the Washington Post and The Boston Globe, where he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. A Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow, Haygood is a visiting distinguished scholar at Miami University in Ohio.
